Grass grows well in the summer sunshine, and the AAAOM grassroots advocacy efforts also reach
upward for the AOM profession in this crucial period. Over 3000 of you have responded to the call
for letters, writing to your representatives to highlight the
importance of HR646. These have provided yet another symbol of the collective wealth all of
you bring to acupuncture and Oriental medicine. It is not a question of if, but rather of when.
Thank you for lending your voice so actively to the AOM profession.
In this issue, John Weeks returns from his hiatus with a vigorous infusion of quality articles
in The Integrator Blog. We bring news of legislative advancements in both Minnesota, New Jersey
and Connecticut, as well as an interview with Chris de Vries, a man in his 60s who is currently
a student of AOM. Additionally, Charles Ignacio Roman contributes an op-ed piece on the patience
required to build a cultural bridge to AOM in the U.S.
The AAAOM-SO reports on details from the student caucus of the AAAOM Conference, and if you
want to know how to employ press releases to build your practice, Loni Anderson, LAc has some
answers. What are the various ways to gain experience in employment? Jean-Paul Thuot, RAc checks
in from British Columbia to discuss the pros and cons he has collected in his practice experience,
both in Canada and in Taiwan. As always, our national and international links deliver articles to
you that affect your life and broaden your understanding of the issues that inform your practice
and the field.
As always, the Qi-Unity
Report seeks to deliver articles germane to your practice and equally to the AOM profession in general.
Connecticut Legislative Update
Regina Walsh, LAc, Secretary of the Connecticut Society of AOM, reports that acupuncturists have recently
received title protection in Connecticut. This indicates another positive step toward legal recognition of
AOM education and the rightful representation of that fact for practitioners in Connecticut.

Edith R. Davis: a Life Well Lived
Deah Kinion, former president of the AOMAM in Minnesota, sent this article about Edith Davis and her
history in the early days of AOM in Minnesota. Davis, who died last summer at age 87, was an instrumental
figure in galvanizing support for a practice act. Read more about her life and the inception of acupuncture
agencies that took place in her time. The following is an excerpt taken from a history booklet celebrating
30 years of acupuncture in MN.

the cost-effectiveness and effectiveness in the real world for acupuncture and Oriental medicine. Questions
about Obama’s health reform plan from Wayne Jonas, MD, a leading integrative health policy advocate. Two “Round-up”
articles which allow you to scan the waterfront in integrative practice from US Catholic Bishops blasting Reiki
and naturopathic physicians teaming with PBS for a documentary on their field to the pioneering initiatives of
Patricia Culliton, LAc, Mark Nolting, LAc and Joseph Chang, LAc in bringing AOM practices into new healthcare arenas.
