Mayway’s Matching Donation Drive

From July 1st through Sept 30th 2009, Mayway Corporation will match donations made through Mayway to the "AAAOM Political Action Fund: Working to Pass into Law the Federal Acupuncture Coverage Act (HR 646)" up to $5,000 dollars (for a combined total of $10,000 or more).

Our country is currently engaged in debate on how to improve our healthcare system. This fundraising effort offers a unique opportunity for everyone invested in the growth and stability of Oriental medicine in American to come together to raise awareness about our field and to help promote the passage of this important piece of legislation.

When Mayway exhibited at the recent AAAOM conference in Sacramento in April we were inspired by the enthusiasm and generosity of the participants who supported the political action fundraising effort. As we reviewed and considered what kind of contribution Mayway might make, we realized that if we used our not-for-profit giving model, we could do even more for this significant project.

Mayway Corporation, owned and operated by the Lau family, has a long-standing program for giving. Its aim has been to serve the Chinese medicine community and individuals in need through ongoing donation of overstocked materials, as well as periodic monetary support to local, national and international programs serving the needy. Some notable donation drives have offered support to treatment of relief workers at ground zero post-9/11, to Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB) treating disaster victims post-Katrina, and to the Pan African Acupuncture Project (PAAP).

Currently, our aim is to support the development and establishment of the Oriental medicine profession through support of this bill. It is our belief that the current efforts of AAAOM’s PAF offer a rare prospect at an exceptional time in our country’s history. As our country’s leaders review and debate health care in our society, we hope that the AAAOM PAF and the passage of the Federal Acupuncture Coverage Act (HR 646) will strengthen Oriental medicine's place in our nation’s medical system.
